The courses at Lang-Ex are based on the functional-communicative method and respect the guidelines of the Common European Framework. This framework seeks to standardize and coordinate language teaching throughout the European Union by providing a common international benchmark to help students and professionals understand the relationship between the various didactic systems present in the European territory.
Through the functional-communicative approach, the student is constantly asked to take into consideration the various functional mechanisms (that is to say, the language and the situations in which it is used) of both the spoken and written language. The courses aim at the development of these communicative skills in an environment that is always stimulating, yet relaxed.
Moreover, the courses at Lang-Ex seek to personally involve the student by focusing in on their own personal background and on what makes them unique. This idea can be developed by providing lesson or assignments based on their personal history or on their personal beliefs. These ideas will then be shared in the classroom and the idea presented will be discussed in an open and inclusive environment. It is believed by the staff that this particular approach leads to greater participation by the students in the language learning process and further opens dialogue between the students in the classroom. The end result is greater cross-cultural understanding and a more unified and cohesive group.
The Association events, such as the Photography Competitions and the events that are offered in collaboration with other Cultural Associations in Milan, also work toward this goal. They focus on the use of language as a stimulus for cross cultural understanding and also as a way to simply learn in another language. It is thought that this helps the student use the language and learn subconsciously and with less effort.
